Biography

Partner Jennifer Johnsen is not only a leader at GWB but is also a leader in the profession and the community. Jennifer currently serves as Chair of the Firm’s Diversity Committee and is the Team Leader of the Firm’s ERISA and Benefits Team.  She currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Federation of Defense & Corporate Counsel, is a Vice Chair of the Admissions Committee and a Vice Chair of the Projects & Objectives Committee. In addition, she serves as a Vice Chair of the Insurance Coverage substantive law section and is served as Chair of the Life, Health & Disability section of the FDCC from 2012 -2104.  Jennifer was Co-Chair of the FDCC’s Insurance Industry Symposium held in 2015. Jennifer currently serves on the Board of Trustees for the United Way of Greenville County and was Chair of the United Way of Greenville County’s 2016 Campaign, which raised more than $16.5 million dollars. She also serves on the Executive Committee of the YMCA Metro Board of Directors. In 2003, she served as President of the Greenville County Bar Association.

Jennifer’s leadership skills and more than 27 years of trial and litigation experience have benefited the clients she serves in her law practice which focuses on ERISA benefits litigation, insurance coverage litigation, and business and commercial litigation.

Jennifer has extensive experience litigating issues concerning employee benefits in both the ERISA and non-ERISA context.  Throughout her career Jennifer has handled cases involving:

  • Long-Term Disability Benefits
  • Health Benefits
  • Long-Term Care Benefits
  • Life Insurance Benefits
  • Accidental Death & Dismemberment Benefits

Jennifer also brings more than 20 years of experience to the insurance coverage practice.  From coverage opinions and declaratory judgment actions to defending bad faith claims, Jennifer has handled a myriad of insurance coverage issues.  Her insurance coverage legal skills are highly regarded in the legal community. As a result, Jennifer has been asked to speak on the topics of bad faith claims and director’s and officer’s coverage at national meetings of the FDCC.

Jennifer is also an accomplished business and commercial litigation attorney. She represents individuals, businesses, and corporations in business disputes and litigation. Throughout her career Jennifer has defended clients in matters concerning:

  • Insurance
  • Shareholder Disputes
  • Covenants Not to Compete

Jennifer recognizes the value and importance of client service. She strives to exceed the expectations of her clients by attending to the smallest detail and by being responsive to client inquiries
