Background
Shelley Sunderman Montague has focused on litigation throughout her legal career and is a member of the Business and Commercial Law and Insurance Practice Groups. She has handled matters in state and federal courtrooms in all parts of South Carolina. She developed her litigation skills trying straightforward personal injury and premises liability cases, and has since expanded her practice to include complex construction, commercial, business, insurance, and personal injury matters. She frequently handles cases involving multimillion dollar damages claims. As she continues into her second decade of practice, she is able to use her skills to provide her clients with a strategy tailored to their case in order to achieve the best results. Her litigation experience, as well as her involvement in other professional and community organizations, has allowed her to develop strong relationships with the legal and business community in South Carolina. She understands that it is critical for an attorney to have a solid reputation and credibility in order to best represent her client. Shelley is active in the Washington and Lee Alumni Association. She participates with recruiting for the University and serves on the committee tasked with awarding merit-based scholarships. While at W&L, she was a member of the top nationally ranked tennis team, serving as team captain for two years. She is a member of the Richland County Bar Association, in which she was past co-chair of the Young Lawyers Division. She also participates in the South Carolina Bar Association. To connect with her colleagues nationwide, she is involved with the Defense Research Institute (DRI). She has participated in the Construction Law Section of the DRI for many years. Also, she serves on the Board of Directors for the Carolina Children’s Home, a hundred-year old treatment facility that provides various services for disadvantaged children throughout the state.
