Phillip E. Reeves, C. Stuart Mauney & Steven E. Buckingham Receive Leadership in Law Honor

GWB is pleased to announce that attorneys Phil Reeves, Stuart Mauney, and Steve Buckingham have been selected to receive the 2014 Leadership in the Law recognition by South Carolina Lawyers Weekly.  These accomplished GWB attorneys have received this honor for their outstanding professional accomplishments, leadership, and community involvement. Reeves, Mauney, and Buckingham are three of only 30 South Carolina attorneys to receive the Leadership in Law recognition this year. Winning attorneys were nominated by peers and colleagues and selected by the publisher and staff of South Carolina Lawyers Weekly.

Phil Reeves dedicates his litigation and trial work in the insurance, products liability, and transportation industries. During his 33-year career, he has tried approximately 200 cases of all types and handled numerous appeals in state and federal courts.  With particular emphasis on first party claims, Phil centers his insurance practice on representing insurers in various coverage matters as well as extra-contractual and bad faith cases.  He is a member of the American Bar Association, Greenville County Bar Association, South Carolina Defense Trial Attorneys’ Association, International Association of Defense Counsel, Defense Research Institute, and Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel.  Phil has also been involved in the community with the Wade Hampton Sertoma Club of Greenville, Greenville Humane Society, and Speech, Hearing & Learning Center.

Stuart Mauney’s practice is focused on the defense of business and commercial clients in the professional negligence, tort and personal injury, and industries.  Additionally, he serves the South Carolina legal system as a certified mediator and in numerous capacities for the South Carolina Bar, including as a member of the House of Delegates and past chair of its HELP Task Force.  Stuart has a long standing commitment to community involvement in South Carolina.  In 2013, he was elected to the Board of Directors of the South Carolina Association of Residential Care Homes and Gateway House, which provides rehabilitation services for the chronically mentally ill in the Greenville community. He has also served on the Board of Directors for the Mental Health Association of Greenville County and; as well as the Board of Regents for Upstate Mediation Center, and the Greenville Chamber of Commerce’s Board of Regents for Leadership Development programs.

Steve Buckingham practices in the areas of business and commercial law as well as banking, bankruptcy, and creditors’ rights. He has been recognized by Greenville Business Magazine as one of the Best & Brightest under 35.  Steve serves his profession as a member of the Greenville County Bar Association, South Carolina Bar, American Bar Association, Defense Research Institute, and American Inns of Court. He also contributes to the community through his involvement with Furman University, the United Way of Greenville County, the Leadership Greenville Alumni Association, the NEXT Charter High School, and the Poinsett Corridor Revitalization Coalition.

Established in 2001, South Carolina Lawyers Weekly is a regional publication that provides legal news, opinions, and court decisions to its readers.  The publication offers coverage of developments in case law, changes to court rules, and verdict and settlement reports to South Carolina attorneys.
