Summer Associate
Law students with superior academic records and outstanding leadership, advocacy, and legal writing skills are encouraged to apply for the firm's Summer Associate Program.
The Summer Associate Program runs for 12 weeks from mid-May to early August. Summer associates are assigned to practice groups and teams and work closely with both partners and associates. The firm strongly encourages summer associates to attend trials, depositions, motions hearings and other proceedings with their supervising attorneys. After six weeks, summer associates rotate to different groups and teams. The firm's rotation program provides summer associates with the opportunity to work in more than one practice area and with numerous GWB attorneys.
The Summer Associate Program also includes a variety of social events, which in recent years have included dinner parties, baseball games, theater events, bowling, and pool tournaments. These and other social activities enable summer associates to get to know our attorneys on a personal level, outside the office setting. The Summer Associate Program also showcases the numerous opportunities the Greenville metropolitan area has to offer.
The firm typically hires two or three 1st-year summer associates and five to seven 2nd-year summer associates who are splitting the summer with another firm. Salaries for GWB Summer Associate Program are $1,350 per week for 1st-year summer associates and $1,550 per week for second-year summer associates.
Recruiting Schedule
Interviews are conducted during September for students in their second year of law school and during February for 1st-year students. On-campus interviews are generally conducted for students attending the University of South Carolina School of Law, the Charleston School of Law, Wake Forest University School of Law, University of North Carolina, and Duke Law School.
