Clients and peers were asked to evaluate firms based on the following criteria: responsiveness, understanding of a business and its needs, cost-effectiveness, integrity and civility, as well as whether they would refer a matter to the firm and/or consider the firm a worthy competitor.  The first tier in each metropolitan area includes those firms that scored within a certain percentage of the highest-scoring firms.  The second tier is those firms that scored within a certain percentage of the next highest scoring firms. Over 12,000 attorneys provided over 330,000 law firm assessments, and almost 7,000 clients provided close to 20,000 evaluations.
