Workers' Compensation Newsletter
Welcome to the inaugural issue of the Gallivan, White, & Boyd, P.A. Workplace Practices
Newsletter. Our newsletter will be published electronically. We hope that you will find it both interesting and informative. We will keep you advised of recent developments in the law and other matters of interest, including updates from the South Carolina Workers' Compensation Commission and recent legislative changes.
We are proud to announce that we are expanding our Workplace Practices Group. Michelle Yarbrough is returning to our group and will be practicing in the area of workers' compensation defense. Debbie Brown will be leading our Employment Team as well as continuing her practice in workers' compensation defense. Mills Gallivan is leading our Workers' Compensation Team. Kyle Hougham recently passed the Bar and is now a full-time member of the Workers' Compensation Team. Dan Eller joins the team to assist in the servicing of our growing North Carolina client base.
In these challenging economic times, we believe that workers' compensation is an area where you can make an immediate impact on your bottom-line. Statistics have proven over and over again that the longer a claim is open, the more expensive it becomes from indemnity, medical and expense aspects. Our group is committed to finding ways to resolve your workers' compensation cases as quickly and as efficiently as possible. In addition, with Debbie Brown as a Certified Employment Specialist, we are in a unique position to provide employment advice when and where that is needed by
the employer.
The nature of today's litigated workers' compensation claim is very different from the claims of the 20th century. These claims are complex and involve high stakes. Medicare Set-Asides are just one example of the radical changes in litigating workers' compensation claims today. Each case requires a well thought-out and aggressive defense strategy that is flexible when needed and persistently pursued. The GWB Workplace Practices Team is here to help you resolve those tough cases.

Debbie Brown

Debbie is excited to announce that she is expanding her employment and
labor law practice, while continuing to remain involved in all aspects
of the workers' compensation team. She is looking forward to handling
more employment law and workers' compensation cases. Debbie has
devoted her career to catering to a variety of employer needs. Despite
having an active career, she has managed to find time to raise three
children and two dogs!
Dan Eller
Dan is the secret weapon of the workers' compensation team. The
Rock Hill native went to Erskine College in South Carolina and Campell
University's School of Law in North Carolina, and is licensed to
practice law in both North and South Carolina. He is currently
dividing his time between workers' compensation and complex litigation
matters. Dan has several years' experience in workers' compensation,
and is a valuable asset to the team.
Cory Ezzell

Cory is mercilessly teased as the resident "party animal" of the
workers' compensation team. While he may take a fun-loving approach to
life, he takes the practice of law very seriously. Now in his fourth
year with the firm, he has built an impressive caseload and has never
lost a case. Or so he says....
Mills Gallivan
Mills has had a busy year. Not only was he recently named The 2010
Greenville Workers' Compensation Lawyer of the Year by Best Lawyers in
America, but he has also resumed leadership of the workers'
compensation team. And when he's not traveling the world to promote GWB
(I'm sure there is a little sightseeing taking place on the side), he
also has a growing Mediation and Settlement Counsel practice.
Kyle Hougham

Kyle is the newest addition to the GWB workers' compensation team. He hales from Charlotte, NC and earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Iowa and his J.D. from Campbell University. Kyle is an avid golfer, and is intent on proving that he is as good a lawyer as he is a golfer.
Lisa McMillan
Lisa is a Spartanburg native whose love of travel led her to migrate the thirty miles to Greenville. A graduate of Wofford College and the University of South Carolina, she has traded in the sleepless nights of a law student for the sleepless nights of a new parent. Lisa now views coming to work as a nice change of pace from changing diapers!
Katie Phipps

Katie is GWB's Medicare Set-Aside go-to person and a great resource for this often confusing subject. A former assistant solicitor, she now spends her days protecting the rights of employers and insurance carriers. By night she is a new parent trying to navigate the tricky world of babies, bottles, and bath times.
Drew Smith
Drew, a native of Greenville, was recently named one of Greenville Magazine's Best & Brightest 35 and Under. In addition to practicing law, Drew is a captain in the Army Reserves, which means he isn't afraid to instill a little tough love or discipline into the workers' compensation team from time to time.
Ashleigh Ward

Ashleigh is originally from Tennessee, although she fell in love with
the Greenville area when she moved here to attend Furman University.
Prior to law school, she taught fifth grade for two years in
Washington, D.C. through Teach for America. An obvious glutton for
punishment, Ashleigh coaches two of Furman's mock trial teams in her
spare time.
Michelle Yarbrough
Michelle is thrilled to be returning to the workers' compensation practice after building an active litigation practice in the torts, personal injury, and transportation areas. All of this valuable litigation experience, in combination with her previous workers' compensation experience, makes her a fierce competitor in the courtroom.
