Biography

Stuart Mauney is a shareholder in the firm’s Greenville, South Carolina, office.  His practice is focused on the defense of business and commercial clients in the professional negligence, tort and personal injury, and trucking law practice areas.  Additionally, he serves the South Carolina legal system as a certified mediator.

Stuart is the firm’s Tort and Personal Injury Team leader, managing a group of lawyers and staff who provide legal services to insurers, self-insured corporations, and third-party risk managers.  This representation includes complex litigation involving unique tort liability and risk management issues as well as complex multi-party cases. Examples of cases regularly handled by Stuart include:

  • Automobile and Other Vehicular Accidents
  • Premises Liability (grocery stores, retail businesses)
  • Industrial Accidents (fire loss/property damage, heavy equipment)
  • Intentional Torts (assault/battery, false imprisonment, trespass)
  • Business Torts (fraud, unfair trade practices)
  • Slander/Libel

Stuart also defends trucking companies in catastrophic personal injury and wrongful death cases. This defense includes coordinating the emergency response to trucking and industrial accident scenes, the investigations that follows, and the subsequent litigation and trial of those matters.

Stuart’s professional negligence practice is centered on the healthcare industry. The experience he has acquired from serving different industry groups has allowed Stuart to develop a set of skills important in defending professional liability and malpractice cases related to:

Firm shareholder Stuart Mauney has been appointed to a one year term as a member of the ABA Commission on Lawyer Assistance Programs Advisory Committee. The ABA Commission on Lawyer Assistance Programs has the mandate to educate the legal profession concerning alcoholism, chemical dependencies, stress, depression and other mental health issues.
